Linore flax was released in 1962 from the Agricultural Experiment Station in Corvallis, Oregon.
Linore is a cold-tolerant variety of flax. Can be sown in spring before April 15th and in the fall from mid - October to early November.
Average height 30-40 inches with consistent moisture until seed boll formation (dependent on spring or fall planting). Matures in 100-110 days. Pull at 90 days for fiber (½ yellow stems) and lay in wind row on soil for dew retting or bundle and dry for later water retting. For seed production, let seed bolls dry down before combining.
Sow at 100-110 lbs. per acre for fiber production, 55-65 lbs. for seed production. Tillering characteristics predominate at low seeding rates. Approximately 650-1000 lbs. of seed produced per acre dependent on climate, planting date and seeding rate. Fiber yield dependent on region, crop height, seeding rate and harvest date.
Although not as tall as modern hybrid European varieties, Linore is good for first-time flax growers to trial field production of this crop.
